What Is Novabackup?

NovaBackup is a data protection program designed with one purpose: to keep your computer files safe and secure.  Whether you run a small business or are an individual computer owner like myself, this software automatically backs up files of your choosing and keeps them safe 24/7.

Of course, if you don’t plan on using NovaBackup, you can always:

  • Use other free back up softwares that don’t have support
  • Burn your data onto CD after CD and store them in a file cabinet
  • Use a flash drive to store your files (which you hopefully won’t lose)
  • Sit and hope that your computer is never comprised or crashes

Let’s get into more specific questions and details about NovaBackup…

Who Is It For?

Anyone who stores important information on their computer or is worried about losing their files will find NovaBackup to be of good use. If you’re running a small business and your employees are constantly creating and editing data that needs to be secured, then you know how important it is that everything is backed up.

I remember once occurrence where I had a ton of documents and presentations I had created for my business.  I wasn’t backing up at the time and my hard drive completely crashed out of the blue.  I lost thousands of dollars learning the hard way and it’s why I currently use NovaBackup.

What Does It Look Like?

NovaBackup is a computer program that you can download and install. As you’ll see in the screenshot below (ignore my ugly desktop), the main interface has 5 options when you open it up.  They are Refresh My Backup, Setup My Backup, Restore, Disaster Recovery and Online Storage.

1. Refresh My Backup – This is the tool that allows you to backup the files that you’ll select in Setup My Backup.  So, you really must begin with that option that I’ll now discuss.

2. Setup My Backup – The bread and butter of NovaBACKUP.  As you’ll see in the screenshot I’ve taken below, you have the option of either backing up the entire hard drive or specific files of your choosing.  Then, you simply choose a location to save your files.  You can either save it to your internal C drive or an external drive if you have one.

3. Restore – When you find it necessary to restore files that you backed up, this is the tool that you will use.  It will show you all of the different backups that have been performed.  You will need to select the backup you wish to restore and follow the on screen instructions.

4. Disaster Recovery – You actually have several options here.  You can do a complete hard drive image back up, a full recovery of an image that you backed up in the past and the ability to create a bootable CD/DVD/USB if your computer stops loading windows.  I can safely say that the boot option has saved my computer a few times.  Be sure to create a bootable CD immediately so that you’re prepared for future problems down the road.

5. Online Storage – This is actually optional and you don’t have to participate, but a popular feature of NovaBACKUP.  There are several services online that provide data storage, and if you’re worried about losing your backups, then this is an option you should consider.  NovaStor will help you find an online backup service that fits your needs.  See the screenshot below as it explains more:

That is the window that pops up when you click the  Online Storage button in the main interface.  These services aren’t free but they’re worth it when you’re working with a lot of secure files that you don’t want to lose or have stolen.

Does NovaBackup Actually Work?

Well, as you can see in the screen shots above, it does certainly load up. You can also see little bits of my desktop which isn’t the most attractive.

But it is my work computer and I always run a backup whenever I work on my projects.

I’ve lost everything in the past and I simply cannot afford for that to happen. Could you? You really need to ask yourself that question.

There’s no way without NovaBackup that I’d be able to back up everything that I do.  Well I could but it would take hours and a LOT of CD’s.

I really don’t have the time for that so NovaBACKUP is a no brainer for me.  It does what it says it does and it does it well.

And here’s what the Advanced View looks like for when you really get into the program:

NovaBackup Advanced View

You may have noticed the virus scanner near the bottom of the image. NovaBackup has a virus scanner and it does work. It runs the scanner on any file that you’ve selected to backup so that it doesn’t accidently backup a virus or a trojan. That would be bad!  And I need to update it…

Conclusion and Where To Get It

I hope that this has been a good introduction to NovaBackup for you. I tried to explain how it works as simple as possible – because it is a simple program. When you buy it, it’s yours forever and it won’t ever shut off or quit. You own it.

However, there is an upgrade feature that you pay yearly to receive updates. I personally got the upgrade because I backup all the time. But it’s definitely not required and the latest version works well (and will continue to work for years to come).

If NovaBackup sounds like something you’d like to try, then make your way over to the NovaStor website and download the free trial.
